A Wonderful Day in the Neighborhood: Bingo Bolger-Baggins

So we finally arrived home at Back End without further incident with our First Age guest. We had a spot of tea and did some chatting all around, and then Feanor stepped outside and that's when Further Incident made an appearance, not a very major one, but an appearance nonetheless in the form of a loud crack that we all went out to investigate, and which turned out to be a tree limb felled by Feanor's instigation. This seemed to be accompanied by a family reunion of sorts between Feanor and Celebrimbor. They went to see Celly's smithy while the rest of us went in to get dinner together. But everyone is invited when they're ready to come in and take a seat at the table.

Let's see what we have in the wine cabinet. We have wine from Woodhall--that's good. Ah, and here's one from the vineyards by the Gulf of Lune and one from the Havens--made with Elven palates in mind--let's put those out as well. Shall I pour, or should we wait?

[identity profile] elanorgamgee.livejournal.com 2005-07-30 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
*unusually subdued and quiet since coming in from outside, she inspects the wine bottles with polite interest, smiling* This is a really nice selection, Bingo, but I think tonight I better stick with something non-alcoholic. *mild self-deprecating laugh* Lady knows you wouldn't want me to become bitter and drunk. *puts down the bottle and smiles, taking advantage of the moment they have together before everyone comes in for dinner to ask* And how are you holding up, dear? It's been quite a day already. Are you sure you're up for this?

[identity profile] bbolger-baggins.livejournal.com 2005-07-30 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, dearheart. We do have plenty down in the bomb shelter wine cellar. And of course, there's always tea.

*half smiles and half purses his lips at her self-deprecating remark* It has been quite a day, for both of us. *draws her into a hug* I'm exhausted. Aaaaand achy. But I promise to be up for this if you do. How are you holding up?

[identity profile] elanorgamgee.livejournal.com 2005-07-30 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
*laughs softly* Indeed. And thank you.

*wraps her arms around him* I'm sure you are. *rubbing his back soothingly* Would you like me to make you some more willow-bark tea, or do you think you've had your fill?

*takes a deep breath and releases it with a quiet sigh* I feel as if I've run through every repressed emotion I've ever had involving the... *finally assigning a face to the source of her lingering anger and bitterness, if still not quite willing to speak his name* ex-father-in-law. *wryly* But I think I'm going to live, in spite of his best intentions.

*pauses before continuing, smiling enigmatically softly to herself* That said, the day has not been completely without its charm. And Lady willing this evening will be over soon, and we can all get some much needed rest. How is that for a plan?

[identity profile] bbolger-baggins.livejournal.com 2005-07-31 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
You're welcome.

No, more tea for now, thank you, Elanorelle. *relaxes in her arms* Just keep doing that. *smiles playfully at her*

He is a bloody bastard, isn't he? But I might be biased seeing he led me with lies to Lindon, and helped his father attempt to off me when they had me cornered, as I'm sure was necessary, seeing how formidable I am in comparison to two Noldor lords. *wryly* Makes you almost root for the balrogs, doesn't it?

*teasingly* I see. But that wouldn't have anything to do with my uncle's company, I should think.

*nods* Hear! hear!

[identity profile] elanorgamgee.livejournal.com 2005-07-31 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
*nods and smiles* Of course. *feeling him starting to relax* Is that helping at all? *alters the pressure and movement of her hand slightly, mindful of his still-healing injuries*

*sucks in her breath sharply, still harboring guilt over the fact that she had hadn't divorced herself completely from the family that day* Yes. I'm so sorry, Bingo. *is prevented from launching into too many italics, however, by virtue of his balrog joke, variations of which never fail to amuse her* Absolutely. *hastens to clarify, knowing that their dinner guest met his demise in the same fashion* In his case at least.

*blushes and laughs, adding coyly* Oh, absolutely nothing at all. *laughs again, feeling a little silly at her sudden giddiness, but not minding too terribly*

Although things do seem to be a bit too quiet. Should we be worried, or should we just enjoy the brief respite?

[identity profile] bbolger-baggins.livejournal.com 2005-07-31 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
That is lovely. You have skilled hands, dearheart. I ennnnvy my uncle. *kisses her cheek and reluctantly pulls back*

Indeed. *understands her qualification* We'll withhold Balrog-Demising-Judgement on this branch of the family until we know more about them, and observe more of their behavior toward us.

*becomes serious* Celebrimbor struck me as a nice, unassuming fellow for an Elf, especially one so accomplished. But his calling of his rings back to himself worries me. It seems to me art should be generative, not hoarded. I hope he's just collecting them to make an accounting of them and have a reunion of sorts, but if he doesn't dispense them to others, I don't think much good can come of that. Feanor, on the other hand . . . is not an unassuming person, but I suppose such a creator doesn't need to be . . . which may be how everyone has always treated him . . . and how he got the way he did . . . one wonders what some thousands of additional years has taught him. I was unexpectedly pleased by his interest in our doings. That's the most curious I've ever seen an Elf about those different from himself. It's not the same as actually caring about others, but it is a start.

*laughs and smiles knowingly at her, but decides not to pry*

Let's not borrow worries, dearheart; we are quite wealthy in that department. *smiles at her, takes her hand* I'm so glad you're back with us. And I do think it's probably a good thing that we have these guests right now.

[identity profile] elanorgamgee.livejournal.com 2005-07-31 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
*pulls away and crosses one arms in front of her body, embarrassed and annoyed with herself for overstepping; smiles at him but glances away more quickly*

*nods as she listens, generally agreeing with his assessment of their Noldorin guests but feeling as if she has little to add to it at the moment with her mind still jumbled*

*offers another quick smile* It's good to be back. *although truth be told at the moment she wishes she could run away and hide under the bed*

*softly* Why do you say that, Bingo?

[identity profile] bbolger-baggins.livejournal.com 2005-07-31 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
*is worried he embarrassed her with unwanted flirting and his sexualizing of her caring gesture, figures he'll find some way to clown her out of the mood* But who knows with these silly Elves, really. *shrugs and makes a face*

Well, because as much as you want to start afresh now, there's no way you can put your past behind you--one's past becomes ever more looming when you carry it into a new place, trying to find a drawer to stuff it into. These Noldor have given a chance for you to view it from the angle of a more distant part of that family. Aaaaaaand it's made you somewhat ornery today, dearheart--and that's a very good thing. *smiles encouragingly at her* It will help you settle here better, carry your past from a more advantageous hold, and continue on into your future with it. Besides ornery Elanorelle amuses me ever so much.

[identity profile] elanorgamgee.livejournal.com 2005-07-31 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
*smiles, grateful for his efforts to cheer her and the validation of what she had been experiencing much of the afternoon*

I know Bingo, thank you. I suppose I knew that I'd have to go through this process at some point, but I wasn't quite expecting it today, and would have preferred to go through in a slightly less... *winces, imagining how moody and difficult and self-absorbed she must seem to everyone else present* public manner.

*smiles as Isengar enters the room but holds back a moment, still feeling a bit awkward and insecure and weird*

[identity profile] bbolger-baggins.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
You're welcome. *shakes his head* Oooooh, not public--just friends and family--among loved ones who understand, dearheart. Actually, I think the timing is good. There never is a good time for these things, so best to spring it all on you now and get this part over with.

*sees his uncle enter (http://www.livejournal.com/users/bbolger_baggins/60250.html?thread=1732954#t1732954)* Ah, and look who it is.

[identity profile] isengar-took.livejournal.com 2005-07-31 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
*wanders in*

I made this (http://gallery.origami.free.fr/Auteurs/Japan/kimura/photos/Dragon%20rouge/Dragon%20Rouge%20Max%20Mvc-095f.jpg) for the table. Inside joke and all. Sort of.

Not interrupting, am I?

((Oooo, cool one!))

[identity profile] bbolger-baggins.livejournal.com 2005-07-31 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs uproariously* That's wonderful, Uncle! Bery would love that, wouldn't she? Hehe! I do have to admit I miss dear Smaug (http://www.livejournal.com/users/smaugthegreat) painting his toe nails is still one of the highlights of my life.

Of course not! *wraps him in a hug*

((Isengar = teh cool origami guy))

[identity profile] isengar-took.livejournal.com 2005-07-31 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That reminds me - I have a package to send her: some books and papers and such. Must remember to post it tomorrow.

*hugs back*

*smiles at Elanor*

[identity profile] elanorgamgee.livejournal.com 2005-07-31 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
*smiles back* That'll be a wonderful surprise for her. I'm sure she will love it.

Perhaps we should send something for her brother as well. Do you have any good suggestions, Bingo? I'm afraid I didn't get to know him that well during our stay.

[identity profile] bbolger-baggins.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Plado loves music. And anything to do with music. And not much of anything else. So there you go. *looks at the two of them* Any ideas?

[identity profile] isengar-took.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
You know, you can't really go wrong with a kazoo. Really - it's the official instrument of the Wandering Seamen of Middle Earth. I keep mine in a velvet box in my room.

*nods with great seriousness*

I don't know if that will encourage him to go to sea when he's older, though. That might not be such a good thing.

[identity profile] bbolger-baggins.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think I'd worry about that, Uncle. *pats his shoulder* I think that would be as good a deterrent as anything.

[identity profile] elanorgamgee.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
*laughs and rolls her eyes playfully at Bingo's joke* Pay him no mind, Isengar. I would love to make any number of flirtatious comments in strikeouts hear you play.

*thinks for a moment* With his love of anything to do with music, I think he might enjoy building an instrument of his own. I believe there are a couple of shops in town that sell craft kits of that sort. Perhaps we can look for a kazoo kit in the morning.

[identity profile] folcotook.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
*enters* Well, everything's just about ready. So where are these Elves? I hardly got to talk to that Celebambi guy and I haven't met that Feener fellow yet. They're both famous Elves, right? And the neighbors are coming, right?

[identity profile] isengar-took.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
*looks a bit unsettled for a moment*

Will Tiger be joining us? I haven't seen him in a while.

[identity profile] folcotook.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen him either. I don't know if he even lives here anymore. It's pretty weird. I know hobbits would come and go at Great Smials, but this isn't that big a smial. *shrugs* I'm ready to eat.

[identity profile] isengar-took.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
*look of worried concern*

So many people disappear around here.

*glances over at Bingo and Elly to make sure they've not gone anywhere he can't follow*

*is relieved to see them still there*

*shakes head*

Dinner, yes. A good plan and one I approve of.

[identity profile] bbolger-baggins.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't that the truth? *looks sullen a moment* Well, we're not going to disappear when there's dinner to be had, but then we're more sensible than the others, I suppose. *wry smile*

[identity profile] isengar-took.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
*wry smile*

Perhaps we're more stubborn than most.

But dinner waits for no man or Hobbit, and we have guest to attend to.

*offers his heart arm to Elly*

May I?

[identity profile] elanorgamgee.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
*offers Bingo a small sympathetic smile before turning her attention to his uncle*

*smiles adoringly at Isengar as she takes his arm* I'd be delighted.

[identity profile] melbatook.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
*enters (http://www.livejournal.com/users/curufinwe/6494.html?thread=62046#t62046) with Celly from the side door closest to the smithy extension, meets up with them in the dining room* I told our Elf guest that dinner was ready. He went off to look for Celebrimbor. *shrugs* So he knows. Ooooo, you brought out the good wine!

[identity profile] elanorgamgee.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
*smiles at Melba and Celly as they enter* Thank you, Melba. *goes quiet for a moment, lost in thought before returning with a bright smile* Why don't we go ahead and start, but with something relatively informal, like an impromptu cheese course? That way our guests will have a bit more time in which to arrive fashionably late if they wish, but we're not kept waiting should they get caught up in familial obligations. How does that sound?

[identity profile] celbrandybuck.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds perfect to me, Elly. *smiles brightly at her*

[identity profile] melbatook.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. Just as long as we eat something. *puts an arm around Celly, teases* And don't get blinded by this one's glow. She's just been showing her smithing idol around her smithy and gained his approval of her work--naturally, because it's her work--but she thinks it's a big deal.

[identity profile] elanorgamgee.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
*smiling warmly at both of them* It's absolutely a big deal! I can't imagine how thrilling that must have been for you, Celly. Which pieces did he like in particular?

[identity profile] celbrandybuck.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
See? *hits Melba playfully with her hip* Hehe! He liked especially one of my goblets, so I offered it to him and he actually took it and seemed very pleased about it. If only some of my teachers in Erebor could have seen that! I will have to write them. *excitedly* Oh and that's not all!

[identity profile] bbolger-baggins.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
*pleased for his friend* Oh that's wonderful, Celly! I'm glad to hear that! That makes all the worry about him today worth it. And just makes me like him all the better. Good for you both!

[identity profile] elanorgamgee.livejournal.com 2005-08-05 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs affectionately at Melba and Celly's play, her eyes widening in surprise as Celly recounts her story about Féanor accepting the goblet*

*echoing Bingo's happiness for her* Oh, that's amazing Celly! What an incredible honor! *brightly* And you said there was something else?

[identity profile] celbrandybuck.livejournal.com 2005-08-06 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
*nods happily* Get this. He said he's going to send me one of his lamps! Can you believe it?

[identity profile] elanorgamgee.livejournal.com 2005-08-06 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
*jaw drops* Really?! *caught up in her enthusiasm* That is just-- wow, there are no words, are there? *laughs* What a wonderfully exquisite gift. *regards her fondly* I am very happy for you, Celandine.

[identity profile] celbrandybuck.livejournal.com 2005-08-06 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
*giggles, returning her bright grin* Thank you. Even if he forgets--I'm sure he has other important things on his mind--it's a lovely offer. They've been awfully kind to me, these Noldor.

[identity profile] elanorgamgee.livejournal.com 2005-08-06 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
*smiles somewhat bittersweetly, as she remembers how brightly the Noldor can shine when they are at their best*

*takes her hand and says softly* I am glad for that, Celly. Lady knows you are more than deserving of any kindness or honor the Noldor can bestow.

[identity profile] celbrandybuck.livejournal.com 2005-08-07 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Awwww, thank you, Elly. *hugs her*
