The Professor's Birthday!: Bingo Bolger-Baggins

Hello! I'm taking a break from the current storyline here to celebrate Professor John Ronald Reuel Tolkien's birthday today. It's 117 years since he was born. Please join me in raising a glass to him in a toast.

Care for a glass of champagne? I know I have some more glasses around here.

Are you ready? On the count of 3 . . .

TO THE PROFESSOR!!!!!

Without whom I wouldn't be here. In my retro-draft glory. Now I'm exhausted. Please have some more, so I don't finish it all myself and start singing Elvish karaoke, like some others around these parts.

....please forgive my late-i-tude....perhaps I am related to a certain wizard (definitely, I have a pointy hat....). I do hope the champagne has not become as deflated as a tyre of the Last Age.

Ah, Esqre, you see, you DO know some Francais! You are quite the bon vivant, sir! (btw, did you know that the word "karaoke" is the same in French as it is in English? Elvish, as well, although I hear that the snooty Quenya faction uses an entire chapter in "So You Want to Learn Quenya?" to translate this odd rite into an even more peculiar high-Elfalutin' *thing*).

In any case, I, being not so polished in my drinking manners as you, (and possibly of lesser means: just HOW much gold....stuff DO you have socked away in those Tol-ish tunnels, anyway?)happily raised a black-and-tan (or two) to the dear Professor last eve.

Re your comment to Mz. Mechtild in regards to us being 'fast friends'. For my part, I am honored to be your friend, sir....(ahem) fast or no.

À bientôt,

~jan

*chuckles, picks up bottle and shakes very gently, and examines* You're in luck; it is still frothy and full of Fourth Age goodness. *pours a glass and hands to you* To the Professor!

I did NOT know that. *rolls his eyes, does not channel a deceased late night talk show host* They would. That's why I prefer to recommend Quenya for Dummies to beginners. And I still make reference to my Joys of Quendian from time to time.

*looks at bottle, puzzled* It's a fine vintage, but not all that pricey, really.

The honour, mellonamin, and the joy, is all mine. *beams a fond smile at you*

Au revoir, lisse mellon.
